Paul's Filemaker Pro 5 Track Record Database http://www.asente.com/coasterdatabase/ How to use it: The database contains 4 layouts: Instructions: A copy of this information Entry: Shows each field with its name Table: A more compact format with field names in the header Print: A layout designed to be printed. Entry and table layouts include buttons to: Create a new record Sort the records by count, park, coaster name, or manufacturer Show wood, steel, or all coasters First switch to Entry or Table layout and enter your name into the header. I'm not sure why but you can only do this after selecting "View as Form" in the View menu. Then enter your coasters. There are various ways to do this, but I find it easiest to use the Table layout while viewing as a list, or even just to view the database as a table. Fields: Count: The sequential number of the coaster. Automatically increments as you add new records. To reset, go to File->Define Fields, double click the "Count" field, and enter a new starting number. Park: The park the coaster is in. Defaults to the park of the previous entry. Coaster: The name of the coaster. Manufacturer: The coaster's manufacturer or designer. Material: Shows a menu with "Steel" and "Wood" or you can click in the field again to type in something else. Defaults to "Steel"; set the options of this field in File->Define Fields if you want to change the default to Wood. Description: Brief description of the coaster. Year: Year ridden. You might want to make this into a date field. Defaults to the year in the previous entry. Trip: If applicable, the trip where you first rode the coaster. Comments: Anything else you want to enter. ----- The Park, Manufacturer, and Description fields all pop up lists that contain all values you've previously entered into that field in other records. You can quickly go to a value by starting to type it. If you want to enter something not already in the list, click in the field a second time and type the new value. It will then be available in the list in future entries. ----- Example: Count: 131 Park: Silverwood Coaster: Grizzly Manufacturer: CCI Material: Wood Description: Out-and-Back Year: 1996 Trip: ACE Fall Conference Comment: Now Timber Terror ----- Database definition Copyright © 2003 Paul Asente.
